Heating or cooling the material to alter its physical or chemical properties (annealing, tempering, precipitation hardening, etc).

Using coated abrasives to cut-away some material to produce fine finishes and accurate dimensions.

Using a high pressure stream of water (and possibly an abrasive) to cut materials.
Ultrasonic Testing
Using ultrasonic waves that are sent into the material, to detect flaws or characterize the material.
Forging
Shaping the material, with the use of force, to improve strength.
